Hello All,

I have been reading through forums trying to figure out how to deploy Firefox in a lab environment. The tricky part is that the lab owner wants an extension installed, as well as some bookmarks on the machine. Here is the down and dirty summary.

- Firefox 17 ESR version
- Zotero Browser Plug-in
- Bookmarks
Users authenticate using OD so each time a new user logs in, a new profile is created. How can I get this so the plug-in and bookmarks are pushed to each user as they login?

I would use the Excellent Firefox CCK extension. You use it to build a 'management' extension and get this to install as default to set bookmarks etc (http://mike.kaply.com/2013/07/16/cck-wizard-1-4-finally-available/).

The same method can be used to install this management extension as well as others is detailed here: http://mike.kaply.com/2012/02/09/integrating-add-ons-into-firefox/

For anything Firefox, I cannot recommend Mike's site enough!

Darren,

Thanks for the response. I had found Mike's site and I tried to use CCK yesterday using this guide as my primer.

Right now the only thing that isn't working is the Zotero add-on. I have added it under the extensions section of CCK, but it doesn't seem to install when CCK is run. Is there anything that I am missing? I imported the .xpi file that you download for Zotero, but still no Joy. Any suggestions for getting this part to work?

Snapshot package a Firefox install with the CCK plugin. You'll have to deploy the same profile name over and over to each computer. It's the only way I've found of doing this. (ducks while Don Montalvo curses my use of snapshots!)

Darren and Franton,

I "THINK" I was able to solve this, we will see. On the master we installed 10.8.4, then installed FireFox ESR 17.0.8. From there I went and pulled the ADMIN's Application Support folder and preferences file. I then created a packaged that deploys this to FUT and FEU and it appears to be working at least on the first machine I tested on.

Crossing my fingers as I deploy this to a full lab.

No worries. I use this method to deploy Firefox across our entire estate as it's one of our supported browsers.
