Silly Question

firefox stores all this information in the profiles folder. the file is located in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/ RANDOMTEXT.default/prefs.js it is stored in this string:

user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://en-us.start.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official ");

Yup, what Jorge said. We actually create the package and launch the application once and configure the browser as needed. Then I actually change that random profile name to something I know what it is, like UWEC.default and also edit it within the profile.ini so it always looks there. Fill User Templates and your, good. I like using a specific profile folder so it is possible to control making updates to something in it later since I know what the path should be instead of something random.

I can't remember which one of those holds the 'You've been updated' URL, but
my users no longer receive that notification when we update Firefox.

These changes will only have an effect on new Firefox profiles. If you want
to change it for all users that already have a profile then you will need to
create a script that sets the pref that Jorge mentioned for each profile in
each user account.
