Threadjacking. (OT)

Hi list,

I greatly enjoy reading everyone's posts and responses. I'd like to politely request to all members of the mailing list not to threadjack if possible. If you're not aware of what threadjacking is, it's basically taking a message on the list, hitting reply in your mail client, then changing the subject and starting a new thread. If you're just viewing your mail normally without any type of sorting, this issue doesn't become apparent. However, if your mail client has the "organize by thread" capability, then your "new" subject gets buried in the middle of the original thread - because though the subject has been changed, the headers inside the message still refer back to the original subject.

If I decide to not read the thread that was "threadjacked" then I will not see the new subject either. And that's too bad, because there is such good discourse and information on this mailing list, that I would hate to miss out. I only bring this subject up because I've noticed it occurs more on this mailing list than others I belong too, especially over the last few months.

If you're looking for an easy way to start a new message, and you use Apple Mail, just right click or control click on the casper at list.jamfsoftware.com that shows up in the "To" field that shows up in every message sent to the list. "New message" or "New message to this address" is listed in the contextual menu when you right click on the address.

Thanks,
