Whats the best way to simulate/testing auto-enrolment prestages?

Hi,
Whats the best way to test the prestage autoenrollment? I've been branding and setting up scripts to install software etc.

I've got a VMware machine installed with MacOS Catalina. Can I change the serial number of the VM to match one in ABM and work with snapshots? Or is there a better way?

I was using Parallels with a Serialnumber of one of my old and unused test-devices.
I followed this manual here: https://jerbecause.wordpress.com/2018/02/09/creating-a-dep-vm-using-parallels-desktop/

Basically all you have to do is step 7, choose a Hardware ID and an existing Serialnumber.

I then took a snapshot of the devices first boot and always restored to that state when I wanted to test something again.
