Interesting. No more downgrading >:-( to Mavericks on newest models MBA & 13-inch MBPr (I'm not even going to count the MacBook here since it's not even available yet!) I suppose wait for 10.10.3 for a unified boot image again.

I would have been surprised if it was anything else. New hardware and modified tech inside, means custom OS build (usually)
As for 10.10.3, I wouldn't be so sure it will unify the builds again. With Apple, history has shown that even unreleased OS updates can miss the new hardware if they were already in development before said new hardware shipped, and so they may still require a unique version of 10.10.3. I hope I'm wrong, but don't get your hopes up too high.
