Updating App Store versions of M365

I'm using Jamf Pro with some Macs and for some reason I have trouble getting a few M365 apps to update; specifically the Mac App Store versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Interestingly, the Mac App Store versions of Outlook and OneNote update fine. I know the apps having issues are larger sized, but they should still work. I have tried removing and adding the apps to Jamf, removing the VPP option, and a few other things. I have also read about others having the same issue with Mac App Store M365 apps not updating.

Anyone experiencing this issue? Any suggestions on how to solve the issue?

We use Installomator to force-install the non-app version.

Avoid using the AppStore versions of anything when possible. Apples AppStore workflow leaves a lot to be desired.

My suggestions:

  1. If you are using JAMF Cloud, to move to using JAMF's Mac Apps and let JAMF Pro automate everything.
  2. If you are not on JAMF Cloud, use MAU (Microsoft Auto Update).
    1. You will need to remove and reinstall all of your Office apps using the packages from https://macadmins.software/ as the Apps from the AppStore do not support MAU.
    2. You will also need to build a configuration profile to tell MAU to automatically update the Apps, when you want them updating and what apps you want it to manage.

We use both JAMF's Mac Apps and MAU to update office. Mainly because we had MAU in place long before moving to JAMF Cloud, and once its configured its quite literally set it and forget it. MAU and JAMF's Mac App updates do not usually conflict.

We use Patch Management as well. This catches the few stragglers that don't seem to update via MAU for whatever reason.
