Does anyone have instructions on how to configure Apple TVs in Jamf Pro as Conference room casting devices? I want the Apple TV to start up on the casting screen and not have the original startup menu.

I do not like using the Jamf settings to enable Conference Room mode as it locks the Apple TV into only that mode. If a tech needs to do quick troubleshooting, having access to settings can make things easier.

I ended up creating a configuration profile and manually set Conference Room mode on the Apple TV. We have so few Apple TVs in our district that this works fine. The profile has two things that has two things configured: AirPlay Security and Restrictions. AirPlay Security locks access to only devices connected to the same network as the Apple TV and a passcode requirement. We have a separate network set up just for our Apple Devices to auto connect to. This makes it so only district-owned Apple devices could AirPlay to the Apple TV and personal devices could not. That setting may or may not be desirable for your needs. The only thing I have set in restrictions is to allowed applications to just settings - no other apps appear. The result is an Apple TV that is in conference room mode but I can access settings if needed.

if you want to just lock it to Conference Room mode, there is a section in the configuration profile to configure Conference Room Display. Turn it on, write a display message (if desired) and scope your devices. That is all you need to do to if you want to go that route. I have found that it sometimes gets stuck on a black background though rather than showing those nice Apple aerials. The previous method setting conference room mode manually I haven’t run into the blank black background issue.

I recommend experimenting to see what works best for your needs.
