The apps seem to continuously prompt for updates

Hello,

After deploying the latest Microsoft Office updates through JAMF, several users have reported that their Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are stuck in an update loop. The apps seem to continuously prompt for updates or attempt to install the same update multiple times, but the updates never fully complete. Some users have also noticed that the apps occasionally freeze or crash when trying to open after the update attempt.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with Office apps after updating through JAMF? Any advice on how to troubleshoot or resolve this? I’ve tried restarting the machines and clearing local caches, but the issue persists.

One important thing to note is that Jamf primarily just deploys the packages you provide (or from Jamf Mac Apps, if used), and I hope the Office packages came from Microsoft directly. The root of the issue is likely tied to the update itself rather than the deployment tool.

 

This topic has come up quite a bit recently, and many admins have found that simply rebooting the device after the update resolves the issue. If you've already tried that and the problem persists, I recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support. If you are using Jamf Mac Apps, it would not be a bad idea to open a case with Jamf in addition as Jamf does create the packages deployed with Mac Apps.
