The Technical Writer is responsible for technical documentation tasks and projects encompassing engineering processes, manuals, work instructions, quick reference guides and various other technical documents; converting complex information into various mediums that best facilitate the transfer and comprehension in a clear and concise manner.

Position Summary: The primary job of the Technical writer is the planning, development, organization, writing and editing of customized technical documentation solutions in accordance with company, customer and regulatory requirements. Work is both independent and collaborative in nature.

Essential Duties:

  1. Develop content in various media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation
  2. Research, plan, write, edit and coordinate the development of required product literature in the appropriate timeframes for product support, development and launch, in compliance with company operating procedures, work instructions and regulatory requirements
  3. Work collaboratively in cross-functional project teams to acquire source material for documents and to develop understanding of products and processes
  4. Collaborate with document users and product managers to ensure accuracy, quality, clarity and effectiveness of documentation
  5. Maintain a library of technical documentation, cataloging it for internal and external use
  6. Assist in planning, scheduling and tracking documentation work to meet product release dates and client deliverables
  7. Assist marketing with technical information for marketing materials and support
  8. Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality

Essential Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Technical Documentation: creation, maintenance, control and distribution
  2. Obtain and maintain a deep understanding of products and services offered
  3. Inter departmental collaboration
  4. Documentation development and layout

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Technical Writing, Technical Communications or related field with 3+ years of Technical Writing experience in a Manufacturing
  • 5 + years in a professional Technical Writer position in Manufacturing and/or Engineering company
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral, written and presentation) with the ability to handle technical and complex data
  • Strong orientation for detail, organization and high-quality standards
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally including those with limited technical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of content management principles and strategies
  • Strong knowledge of the concepts of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic operations to document assembly, operation, test procedures and reference materials
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with an eye for prioritization
  • Working experience and knowledge of Indesign and Illustrator
  • Experience working with Engineers and Sales to improve user experience and help refine content and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content
  • Basic knowledge and experience taking, editing and utilizing photos and videos for use in technical documents
  • Positive attitude, collaborative and adept at every changing priority

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for various lengths of time
  • Must be able to operate various office equipment, photo and video equipment
  • Must be able to work in office and production environment
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively

  • Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex priorities and problems
  • Work under high pressure and safety sensitive situations
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and make decisions
  • Analyze, interpret and utilize data and technical information

Working Conditions:

  • Adheres to the time and attendance requirements as established by the department supervisor.
  • Conditions will vary from office to production environments
  • Overtime as required and/or needed
