The MATTER Career Readiness Institute (MCRI) is the next phase in the MATTER Innovation Hub (MIH) program. Currently in development in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and sponsored by Jamf and Mains’l Services Inc, the MCRI trains graduates of the MIH for remote tech jobs with U.S. or other international companies. Providing meaningful job opportunities while allowing these young people to stay in their own country strengthens the local economy and brings hope to their communities.
Volunteers will build connections with students in the Community Education Initiatives Program. If interested, please contact Janice at jngf@jamf.com.
What to expect when you first sign up:
- Janice will reach out to the students directly and introduce them to you with your name and email. The MCRI students will send you an email introducing themselves and find a time that will work for both of you to have a meeting using a calendar invite. They may need help to do this, so feel free to help them get that invite created and sent. We want you to become familiar with the students and help them along, as these are new things that they haven’t done before!
Things to keep in mind:
- We want to make sure that our students have lots of opportunities to practice English proficiency. We want to make sure they’re being clear and concise and that they are pronouncing things correctly. While the students have great English skills, this is another opportunity for a new ear to give feedback to ensure that they are easily understandable.
Things to cover during the mentorship:
- There will be various topics to help get you started, but as you have more time with the students, they likely will want to get to know you as a person and may ask questions about you. They’ll likely ask about your role, where you live, your interests etc. and they want to learn everything that they can to connect with you.
What we need from you:
- Feedback! We want to know what was covered during your meeting, and any sort of progress updates on the student. Every week, that information is shared with the Jamf Community Education Initiatives Team and their partners, and so knowing what students have been working on is really valuable in terms of helping to focus on particular skillsets.
