7.3 update

Certificate trusting with the various suite apps. Actually checks for a valid cert on your server, but you can set it to ignore it and trust the default. This is important if you have Casper Imaging autorun in a restore as a prompt to allow it would stop it from imaging if you dont have it set in your restore, unless it times out, but I dont recall it doing it.

Not sure how that works in NetInstall, just started actually playing with that.

I noticed during 7.3 Beta testing that I was unable to compile configurations. I didn't get a chance to report it (happened on Friday), was hoping the final release would fix it but it didn't...

I dont really use them (1 config) and thus didnt have a chance to test them, but if they are really busted I wish you would have taken like 3 seconds to email them and say "check compiling please". =( I can relate to running short on time though.

I guess I'll check that wednesday, too, when I get back in for a full day.

Compiling is going to be huge for us, since we have multiple clients with high volume refreshes. We jumped on the Beta on Friday afternoon so I just happened to stumble upon the compile issue. Our goal was to test an entirely different function in JSS which was a priority for us. So those "3 seconds" were spent shutting down my laptop for the day. ;)

I wouldn't stress it. I would think folks would wait for the 7.31 release before rolling out to a live environment (well, I would hope). :)

I get that with my 7.2.1 development server but it could be my server and not casper,

did 7.2.1 have this issue?

I just noticed yesterday that I could not compile configurations either
(7.21). Was just about to contact Support about it...

(I didn't even know about 7.3 until getting the digest this morning!)

well thats bad, as i am going live to 7.2.1 in a week and i really need
complied configurations

typical, i only need compiled configs for 1 month a year, while mass
imaging and that is aug-sept

I never plunged into 7.21 but I can confirm that I just got done last
month compiling a full OS image + apps into a compiled config in 7.2.

cheers, fingers crossed, ive only tried my test server on 7.2.1 so i
was hoping it was just my server or admin mac using casper admin, as it
could also be permisisons on the share

There's no documented change to Self Service in the release notes, but the
version has changed. It also appears that Self Service 7.3 will not work
with a 7.21 JSS. Can anyone confirm whether or not the 7.01 Self Service
works with a 7.3 JSS?

This may be to an issue I had in my environment where self services was taking up too many mysql processes and creating a very large queue. In return the queue would get so large it would actually stop the mysql daemon. I had a support ticket on it, talked with the support staff and devs and they said they are going to implement a change on the back end of self service to make it more efficient.

I have not tested your theory yet, but I can test it. I just opened up the new self service app on my desktop and it will not connect to my 7.2 JSS for policy

You should always maintain like versions (JSS is 7.3, then Imaging, Recon, Self Service, Remote, and Admin 7.3 should be pushed out) of the applications in your environment. The only exception being Composer.

Agreed - just want to know if Self Service will be broken when we first go
to 7.3.

I believe this was updated due to an issue I had submitted. I wasn't updating the Self Service.app on clients when upgrading the JSS, since the versioning in the gui stayed the same at 7.01. However, Adam informed me that the jamf binary within the application is updated every release. If you use terminal and use the jamf version command on the binary within the app bundle, you'll get the real version.
The issue arose when I tried some directory bindings for our techs with the 7.01 self service.app while running a 7.21 JSS. I didn't have problems with other functionality besides that with the version mismatch.

Correct. And you’ll no longer be allowed to keep an older version of Binary around. If the box checks in it will upgrade to the same version of the JSS, no choice.

I tested the last release candidate I received for 7.3 and compiling worked
fine for me there. I have not gotten the email for the release version yet,
but I don't for see the outcome being different.

Don, have you had a chance to go back and check again, what were you running
on when you were performing the compilation with Casper Admin?

Well, I decided to do a full backup of or LAB Xserve (including JSS and LDAP), then I wiped and rebuilt the box from the ground up. I'm able to compile now. I'm not sure what the problem was, but certainly a rebuild fixed it.
