@KarmaIT i've some ramblings about CoreStorage here.

But JAMF have put stuff in place that negates the issues I encountered then with Casper Imaging.

We always erase via Imaging. So perhaps there is some logic in imaging that proceeds differently depending on installing post wipe via imaging.

@bentoms If I erase with Disk Utility and then deploy it goes to "installing" method. If I use in-built erase in Casper Imaging, block copy works fine.

Just tested with Casper Imaging 9.7 and NetBooted via the NetSUS appliance to a 10.10.3 NBI.. Used Casper to erase prior to laying out a base 10.10.3 image. Worked fine.

Guys, Casper Imaging has always worked that way as long as I can remember.
I always have to check erase disk or it will not do a block copy.
I thought that was just how it worked.
Does 9.71 imaging fix those issues we were having with 10.10.3 or do we still need to bake in 9.65 imaging?

@guidotti thanks for confirming. That's what I was trying to get at. :)

Fair enough. I still think it was worth spelling out my situation as there are people above (e.g CGundersen) having problems with 9.7 and also here https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=13184 whereas it seems to work fine for me. Perhaps they are falling into the same trap.

Right, so the issue there is twofold. There were problems with Casper Imaging prior to 9.65, and there were also problems with OS X 10.10.2. Their interaction was catastrophic for some folks, including me. Once we got to 10.10.3, Casper Imaging 9.65 worked straightaway, but 9.7 fails. That's why I was wondering if 9.71 fixed anything. I am out of the office today and can't test until Monday.

I've found that 9.71 Casper Imaging does indeed fix issue I was having with block copies (e.g AutoDMG with updates/extra software as part of build). Testing was with SMB distro, BSDPy hosted NetBoot and AutoCasperNBI-generated NBI.

edit: block copies good with 9.72 as well

just got this.

Michael

I hope that this email finds you doing well!

I wanted to reach out regarding our 9.71 release that came out yesterday afternoon. It has come to our attention that there are a couple of items that were intended to be in the 9.71 release that were marked as resolved in the release notes that are not fixed. These items are D-008880 and D-008907. Both of these items are related to the http download of packages and scripts from a traditional file share. We are currently working on determining how this occurred and also working to get an updated release out to you as soon as possible. Though we do not have an exact timeframe, this is currently of the utmost importance. We should have a new release available within the coming days that will address these items.

Please feel free to let me know if there are any questions on this. JAMF Software sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience that this has created. We just wanted to bring this to your attention as soon as we could.

Sincerely,

Joel Peasley
Manager, Commercial Accounts

Just tried netboot imaging with 9.71. Erase with Disk Utility and install base image and it hangs at Installing Package. Erase drive with Casper Imaging, block copy and all is well. Only seems to affect the imaging of a newly erased drive as I can apply my thin image configuration normally. Images on the NetSUS appliance served over AFP (I think, not sure if AFP is the default on the NetSUS appliance. Doesn't seem to be a setting that can be changed.)
