Just received the licensing for our campus.

looking forward to testing it out, and seeing how much "fun" this will be with CS6 deployments.

I asked Jody Rodgers at JNUC and he said Acrobat Pro XI will not be a freebee for CS6 users who are on Enterprise License Agreement.

So the 1,000+ CS6 users in one client shop will need to pay full cost for a new copy of Acrobat Pro XI since their bundled copy is not upgradeable.

I know Adobe is pushing this Adobe Creative Cloud product, but they're shooting enterprise in the foot in the process. Our clients are furious.

@Don are your customers really surprised by that? Seriously? That's the way Adobe has always dealt with Acrobat upgrades in the middle of a CS lifecycle. At least, as long as I've been dealing with them it is.

I'm referring to Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) shops.

Adobe CS historical updates:

CS2 included Acrobat 7
CS2.3 included Acrobat 8 <-- free update to Acrobat 8 via ELA
CS3 included Acrobat 8
CS3.3 included Acrobat 9 <-- free update to Acrobat 9 via ELA
CS4 included Acrobat 9
CS5 included Acrobat 9
CS5.5 included Acrobat X <-- free update to Acrobat X via ELA
CS6 Included Actobat X
CS6.x (if released) will include Acrobat X <-- no free update to Acrobat XI via ELA

So ELA customers are stuck on Acrobat Pro X...they'll need to either (A) buy full copy of Acrobat Pro XI, or (B) use Adobe Creative Cloud. Either way, no more freebees for ELA...and yes, our clients are furious. :)

@adam and @bentoms Acrobat Pro XI will need to be packaged/deployed as a separate product...it won't interfere with existing CS6 install...other than overwriting the bundled clopy of Acrobat Pro X. At least this is how it was explained to me by Adobe Gold Support (who claimed to be AAMEE saavy, although they didn't seem to know AAMEE packages never call home LOL).

Adobe representative talked at a reseller conference I was @ today (Square was the reseller btw).

Point is, he said that CS6.5 is due April/May & will have Acrobat X1

Well that would be a HUGE relief if it happens...Jody told us at JNUC that if there is a CS6.x update it won't include Acrobat XI, and we got the same story from Adobe Gold Support (who apparently need training on enterprise deployment tools and techniques). Was it an Adobe rep, or was a 3rd party vendor who said it? :D
