We have several provisional nodes using Apple Configurator to deploy paid applications to our site's iPads. We have yet to decide on a backup strategy for the Configurator directory which contains all of the sites redemption codes, users, and documents.

We'd like to setup up something that just backs up this particular directory per the Apple support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5194 to a centralized server. We're not concerned with computer backups just the specific directory and files listed in the apple document.

We know of several possible ways, but deciding on a best practice has yet to be determined. I'm curious how the JamF Community is doing their Configurator backups?

Thanks,
Chuck

We are using external HDDs and time machine. We have 30 or so AC nodes out there and have actually restored a few already from their time machine backup( works great). It would be nice to just backup the Configurator directory to a server though.

If you don't mind tinkering, setup rsync.

If you want fire-and-forget use CrashPlan.

Jared, you've got my attention. Specifically with CrashPlan. I see the product mentioned quite a bit. However, I haven't dug into too much.

Can I use the free version on all of my provisional nodes using the same CrashPlan account on each then backup to different folders on the destination computer? Example would be the destination computer having a folder for each site, then my one CrashPlan account on each provisional node pointing to their site specific folder on that destination computer?

Or do I need a different CrashPlan account for each provisional node?

You may want to talk to the Code42 folks to see what will meet your needs. If all of your nodes have the exact same Configurator setup, you may be able to get away with the same account. However, it may not be advisable as I'm not familiar enough to know how things like that are handled under the hood.

Definitely talk to them though.

Thank you, I'm doing some testing right now and will certainly contact them should I have more questions. I appreciate your input!

Hi,
Has anyone has come up with new ideas for Apple Configurator backups?
