Yesterday, we mistakenly removed a number of devices from one of our device groups in Jamf. As a result, profiles and managed apps were removed from those devices.

After re-adding the affected devices to the original group, the profiles were successfully reapplied. However, we've noticed an issue with some apps: in Jamf, several apps now display the status message "Removal Deferred. Will be removed on 17-06-2025."
We've checked multiple student iPads and confirmed that this message does not appear to be associated with any specific app—it seems to vary across devices. We're currently unsure why this removal status is being applied or whether the apps in question are at risk of being uninstalled on the stated date.
We also found that if we pressed 'remove' on an app that has this message it either puts it back onto the Jamf Student App or back onto their home screen if they had it installed. However doing this for all the student devices affected would be very time consuming!

I have also rung the Jamf support line and they suggested to create a new device group however now I am faced with a 'Restrictions Enabled' notification.

When you remove a device from scope of an app, the app is not removed straight away, there is a grace period of when the app will be removed from the device.
That is looking to me like you need to run an inventory collection on the devices. Appologies I am not a Jamf School user so I am unsure on how to implement this. For me in Jamf Pro I would run an inventory update and the devices would check in and report the status of all apps. At this point as they now have the licenses re applied they should pick up this and change their status.
It might be though that they are stuck, as having dropped from a group and then back in again, and Jamf is not reapplying the policy/app. And therefore the suggestion to make a new group, and adding the apps and devices to that group, may well fix the issue straight away.

You can do a "Remove deferred licenses" in bulk by going to Jamf School > Apps > Inventory > select all apps > click 'Permanently delete deferred items' button. You'll have to wait a few minutes for it to completely take, but it should release those licenses and allow the app to reinstall.

If it is still not reinstalling, you can try the above steps and the click the 'Retry' button and select "Retry to install apps that are stuck...". I usually will do both options under 'Retry' just to catch them all.

I hope this helps.
