Hello,

I was wondering if anybody has a method of enabling FileVault 2 on Lion without end-user intervention?
I have the master keychain made so I don't need to worry about recording numbers or sending questions to apple.
I tried the script from the resource kit, but that basically just opens the pref pane.

Ideally what I need is a way to enable FileVault on Lion at the imaging stage so that the person doing the imaging doesn't have to manually start the encryption process.

I talked to Apple and there is not a command line oriented method of turning on FV2, it is a manual process at this point.

Yup, no command-line way to enable FileVault 2 at this time.

If you need this functionality, I highly advise putting in a feature request at http://bugreport.apple.com/ and making sure your Apple SE knows what the bug report number is.

Hey AdamH,

Not sure if you got this going yet but have you tried setting this up via policy in the jss? I recently got this working.

Old thread, Apple introduced fdesetup in Mountain Lion, and Casper Suite fully supports it:
