What do you use to back up multiple Macs (80 or more) to the network, ChronoSync and ChronoAgent? I know Time Machine isn't a good option for this many Macs. Just curious.

Take a look at CrashPlan PRO. We're not doing anything right now but if I had my choice, that's what I'd be using.

After much research, we put up an offsite backup solution (handling about
200 Macs) with and unused xserve and raid unit. We use PresStore. While it
might be a little pricey to set up, it pays off big time in the long haul.

I'm currently not using it, but in the past I had a tremendously joyful
experience working with them.
The support is top notch and the price is extremely sensible.

CrashPlan Pro if you're OK backing up to disk (either on a central server, somewhere on the Internet, or both), PresSTOR if you need to back up to tape.

I've looked at CrashPlan Pro and that seems to be the better resolution for our environment. For this we'd need to add some storage to it. What would be the best (and fastest) to add in order to utilize CrashPlan Pro?



We've got 105 Macs and slowly climbing, so we wouldn't need a astronomic amount of data, but enough to be comfortable with.

We use CrashPlan Pro to backup Macs and Windows workstations to a
partition on an Xserve. About 50 clients require 500GB+ of space. Of
course, your experience will vary. We like this because, after the initial
cost, CrashPlan Pro is free to do this since we provide the server space
rather than saving to an online server somewhere. It is also faster since
the backups take place over Ethernet.



The second stage is to backup this data regularly to tape using our
high-volume disk-to-tape system, which, in our case is Atempo Time
Navigator, and regularly send tapes offsite. So, in the improbable, but
possible event that we lose the RAID with the CrashPlan workstation
backups, it could be restored from tape to a reasonably-recent state.
