iPads generally do not go home with students so there is not a need for the Jamf Parent app. I want to see if there is an easier option for teachers to have their students assign themselves iPads for better tracking and management. We use most iPads for K-1 only. 


I'm curious if there is something like this, similar to Clever where students scan their badge to access the app, but in this case, they scan the iPad to assign it to themself and the data is synced into Jamf School and goes away if iPad is wiped, etc. 


This would also help with our asset management API.

Is this for a one time assignment setup or are you thinking that it would be every time they are given an iPad assignment? As far as I have found, there isn't a way to assign an iPad using a QR code. Hmmm...maybe using 'shared iPads'? But I'm not sure shared iPads can do QR code assignment...may have to dig deeper.


In our schools for the lower grades, I just created placeholder accounts in ASM and Jamf School for the iPads. The classroom teachers assign the iPad to the student either alphabetically or by seat so they get the same iPad every time. And then they use Clever for signing into any apps/sites that use that form of account sign-ins.

You need class data in Jamf School, either from a manually created course(s) or an import if you have class data from your SIS in Apple School Manager. The instructions get you started with the app, but you'll need to create your own groups and enrollment procedures for it to function properly. I'd suggest using Return To Service when erasing iPads as well.
