Cancel Software Updates ?

I am trying to test this new Software Updates feature on some Sonoma computers.  I have pushed some commands but am just now seeing the caveat that the first command is the only one that will run.  (The first command I sent to my computer is not going to run!)  

My macOS computer is sitting at "Update in progress" where I pushed "Latest major version" without realizing that Apple released a major version yesterday that is blocked via Restricted Software.

How do I cancel this existing Software Update attempt so that I can try pushing the Latest Minor Version?  (Each time I try, I am presented with "Existing Plan For Device In Progress" err ExistingPlanForDeviceInProgress.  I just need to clear the existing plan, right?

Just push the new OS update command, it will overwrite the previous commands. Also, if you push a version of macOS that is deferred, the mac will just note it in the install.log and not do anything.

Try turning off the new Software Update Feature. Wait a few minutes or so. Then flip it back on.

Just push the new OS update command, it will overwrite the previous commands. Also, if you push a version of macOS that is deferred, the mac will just note it in the install.log and not do anything.


Thank you for the suggestion, but each time I push a new Software Update command the Operating System History shows Failed with the error reason of "ExistingPlanForDeviceInProgrress."  The new command does not seem to be overwriting the prior command at all.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I am not 'the jamf admin' rather I am using a huge Jamf server so I really need a solution that I can manage with a Policy, Configuration Profile or at the local computer.  Thank you anyway.

I don't understand.
If you're trying to cancel the DDM update, try the suggestion above. Then re-send the desired DDM Software Update you want.

Toggling off and on will attempt to cancel existing plans you mentioned.

Apple announced this behavior at WWDC a few years ago, I suppose they could have changed it and not said anything.

I do not have permission to enable and disable services on the Jamf server.  Where you have a filed for "Use new feature" I have a big blank area.  My permissions on the Jamf server are limited.

That said, my goal is to find a way that I can update macOS computers at the workstation without turning services off and back on.  There is a way, right???

I see. This is the quick fix your asking. Can you find someone with rights to assist? Once they toggle this, it may cancel the update you sent and then you can send a new one.
