Casper 9 - not talking to our external db

Trying (and failing) to install Casper 9 on our test server environment. Simple setup consisting of one JSS only server pointing to a separate database server. Both are RHEL 6.3 servers running in a VM environment. The DB server is a standard MySQL 5.5 install.

When we install Casper 9 it appears to work until the tomcat process starts. It runs through a few checks and then comes up with the "i've not run before, please enter your licence code" screen. If you do that, it then crashes. JAMF logs show a repeated attempt to talk to the database which then fail.

The insane thing is, if we put 8.71 back on then it all works fine. We've checked iptables, mysql settings especially those for where you allow access from and max packet sizes (currently 2Gb), server connections between the two. I'm at a loss on this one.

Hrm. It's just not upgrading our database at all.

Is this a backup of your production environment? If so, and you have clustering enabled in your production environment you will need to disable clustering on your test JSS so that the webapp knows that it should be upgrading the database schema.
