Hey Nathan,
There are some cases that prevent the focus from being removed automatically for up to 5 minutes past the end of the meeting time, and the JSS would have to be accessible from the device during that time period for the removal to work properly.
If the devices are removed from the network before the 5 minutes is up, we have another safety item in place that will remove the profile even without connectivity to the JSS, but this method can take up to 24 hours to remove the profile.
Have you tried waiting up to 5 minutes after the end of the meeting time to see if the focus is removed? If you check the "Management History" in the inventory record for the device, that could also be helpful to better diagnose what's happening there.

Hey Nick.
I've waited for around half an hour with no luck, haven't had the patience to wait longer than that thus far :-)
I have found that if I go the the Management History of one of the iPads, it has the "Remove App Lock Profile" push notification as pending. If I click the "Send Push Notification To Check-in" refresh button at the top right of the screen, then the iPad immediately gets the profile and all is well again...

Nathan,
We have identified a bug around this issue in the JSS and we hope to get it fixed for 9.0. The defect ID is D-003908. It's worthwhile to note that any teacher can override or remove App Focus that has been set by another teacher, provided that they are assigned to a class that contains the devices.
For example, if Teacher A in Math class set the app focus to a calculator app and does not remove App Focus at the end of class, Teacher B in an English class and Teacher C in an Art class that meet after the Math class can remove the App Focus or override the App Focus.
Workarounds to this issue include:
- Remove the App Focus before the end of class
- Remove meeting times from the class so that focus can be removed whenever.
- Send a Push Notification To Check-In (as you mentioned above)
Thanks!
Nick
Hi Nation,
We are on JSS version 9.4.28064.se. We have a situation where some of our teachers are unable to un-focus (clear the focus) on their student's iPads. We have gone to the extent of wiping the iPads but when they come back up from device enrollment, they are still locked or focused. Help!
