I'm starting to test 10.8 in prep for our summer reimage of our student & staff computers & trying to test MCX vs. config profiles (assuming 10.8 is still around this summer, we've gotten lucky the last few years rolling out last years OS).
All of our existing MCX settings appear to work as expected with 10.8.2 and 8.62. Because I'm dealing with students who take laptops home and try to find and work around flaws, some of the various config profile threads I've read here make me nervous (profiles disappearing, etc). We've used WGM and then JAMF's MCX implementation for years, and it's pretty rock solid at this point for us.
I know Apple is 'moving away' from MCX, and JAMF, in a webinar I watched, strong suggested moving towards config profiles. The fact is if I have an MCX question, If I put a ticket in Apple right now doesn't give me much support once they find out we're using JAMF. And JAMF isn't always able to answer my MCX questions and points me to Apple, so I'm not sure support is really a big concern.
Is anyone out there rolling out 10.8 and have any big gotchas I'm not considering? I assume JAMF will leave the managed preference workflow in place for years to come because of prior OS's out there.
Obviously we'd have the flexibility to do both MCX and config profiles if we had to do something on a config profile.
Thanks for any thoughts and discussion.
