CS6 & AAMEE 3 w/ JAMF guidelines

if you try to install the aamee package manually on lion, what does the install.log say in console, where is it failing?

Did you remember to:

[x] Disable all Adobe AIR installers, including Adobe Help Manager

and

[x] Ignore conflicts and continue installations

Are you using SMB shares? If so AAMEE generated PKG installers can fail, so we follow JAMF article:

@ donmontavlo: yes, I followed JAMFs technical paper verbatim. (it works on Snow Leopard, just not Lion) and the JSS is a real Mac, all shares are AFP.

I am rebuilding the AAMMEE packages but on my Lion image and see what happens.

Ok...

Just repackaged it with AAMMEE under Lion and it deploys properly onto Lion.
Also repackaged again but under Snow Leopard and it's working as it should on Lion.

So.. maybe I missed something the first time around?? I don't remember honestly... maybe I missed one of the ticks boxes as it says in the JAMF tech paper? Probably since I cannot reproduce the error now... Although I am pretty sure I followed it verbatim but then again, I do get a lot of 'how do I dial an outside number?' calls.

We always grab screenshots when making AAMEE packages, so we can refer to them if we run into problems. We also grab the AAMEE log file. So our AAMEE package project folder has all that stuff in one place.

How do you all handle adobe air applications installation (Adobe Help , Dreamweaver widget) in CS6 ? Are you including it in the AAMEE Package or following adobe exceptions method?

I am prompted with Proxy Authentication when installing adobe air applications from Exceptions folder.

Someone (Jody?) behind the @Adobe_ITToolkit Twitter account explained to me that CS6 doesn't contain Help content. It wants to download it from the Internet after installing. When we exclude the Adobe Air and Community Help from our packages we're only excluding the Help system. Installing this from the Exceptions folder still doesn't install the content.

When you see the proxy prompts you're seeing your CS6 application attempt to get that content.

I haven't tested this myself with CS6 but these instructions explain how to disable internet access from CS5:

Proxy servers stink. They're usually deployed by Microsoft-only (read: cross platform illiterate) IT staff who go home on time every day saying "It's your problem, not mine". Raise enough of a stink (attend change control meetings) and eventually those knuckleheads get found out and replaced by more open minded cross-platform IT staff.

We're experiencing the same problem: Adobe CS6 install PKG seems to require proxy authentication (internet access) in order to complete.
Has anyone discovered a solution? It's a bit absurd to require internet access for Enterprise level PKG distribution.

@karthikeyan.mac According to Adobe Tech Support: they are aware of the issue and working on a solution. Unfortunately that doesn't help us right now.
I took the old-school approach: Installed CS6 on our Base Image and will be issuing the Serialization PKG to the clients via WLAN.

Hello, I thought coming back onto this rather old discussion instead of opening a new one about CS6 with my questions.

I am testing CS6 deployment with a pkg created with AAMEE 3.1 following guidelines and then copied locally to a temp folder.

The same policy only calls a very simple "after" script to install the pkg
something like installer -pkg MYCS6.pkg -target / and then leaves a receipt.

Everything seems to be fine, except at the end of the installation Adobe Extension Manager CS6.app automatically opens up and warns me there are several errors related to extensions data not correctly being imported or something like that (my CS version is Italian, so I can't exactly translate it into English).

Within Extension Manager I can only see Indesign and Fireworks have available extensions to be managed.
Is this correct? and why does Extension Manager open automatically?

Yes, I am sure I did but... I can repackage and double check, no problem
It does not look like an error related to the installation.
It's only the Extension Manager that opens up with apparently no reason after whole process took place.
Unless this is being considered an error by AAMEE...
I am only worried that will confuse users, as the deployment should happen in the background.

I've been finding that you get those errors when the package hasn't been cached from a dmg to the mac properly. I've had multiple encounters with the pkg file only having the 1st gb of data delivered and i'm not sure why.

@franton, many thanks for you hint, I'll take a look a that.
Actually, I have not started deploying CS6 and I simply manually copied the pkg onto the client machine, just to be sure at least the copy itself was reliable.
I then re-packaged CS6 once again - paying double attention to AAMEE settings - and my 1st attempt is now sightly different, Extension Manager still opens up at the end but does nothing. I think I will simply have to kill that process from Casper during deployment (search for process/Kill if found) if I don't come up with a better solution.

I'm using both policies and Remote to "cache" a dmg that just contains the .pkg file. Either way our deployment of large files is unreliable. I've been finding error messages that the dmg is corrupt or it's not downloading fully. I've no idea why at present, just some nasty suspicions. (it's either our six year old xserves or it's our network)
