Hi All



i've read this instruction on vmware on how to create a fusion+ os x vm and deploy via jss. but is there a same way to create and deploy fusion+windows os vm?
the problem i have is
1. the .mpkg is over 10G and jss seems doesn't recognize it, in the log it shows deploy and downloading from DP, but actually nothing happened.




  1. how to make the windows vm hostname different? i used the .mpkg file installed on another computer, fusion and window vm set up, but the vm hostname doesn't change at all. is there a solution for this vm name change?

I've had pretty good luck packaging up a VMware Fusion and a Windows OS using the instructions here:

When you get to step 9, you can skip steps a - c as this applies to Mac OS X, and doesn't apply to Windows VMs. In terms of VM hostnames, you may need to use Sysprep, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Cc721940(v=WS.10).aspx, to generalize the machine before you bundle it up for deployment. That will make it so that the computer information is generalized. This should also bring up the welcome screen after you've deployed the VM and allow you to set a computer name.

@adhuston thanks so much. do you have any successful experience of changing the hostname by sys prep on Windows vm?

You'll need to setup an answer file for sys prep, but yes it can change the host name. Instructions on doing that are found here:

Step 8, specifically has information on how to make it so that you'll be prompted to set the computer name.
