Hi all 👋🏻

I’m planning on getting Self Service+ deployed to devices in my Jamf environment. Could anyone point me in the right direction on where to best place a policy for Self Service+ so it can be applied to enrolling devices during DEPNotify?

Our current process is as follows:

  • Setup Assisitant
  • Remote Management
  • Entra Sign-in
  • More set-up steps, Accessibility/Data & Privacy/Apple Intellegence/Choose Your Look
  • DEPNotify UI pop-up to ‘Register Your Mac’

For devices already live in our environment, I’m planning on creating a policy that installs Self Service+ and uninstalls the classic variant.

I’m on a tight deadline to get this on 240 devices before the 4th Feb, so any fast responses would be hugely appreciated 🙏🏻

Many thanks,

Hi,

Have you considered using the setting in Jamf Pro (Settings > Jamf Apps > Self Service +) ?
By doing so it will :

  • uninstall Self Service from current computers and replace it with Self Service +
  • automatically install Self Service + on newly enrolled computers

Cheers

For deploying Self Service+ during DEPNotify, you should use the policy-based deployment method:

Setup Steps:

  1. Download the Self Service+ PKG from Jamf Account Portal > Add-Ons
  2. Upload the PKG to Jamf Pro via Settings > Packages
  3. Create a policy with the Self Service+ PKG, scoped to "All Computers" or your enrollment smart group
  4. Set the trigger to Custom (e.g., installSelfServicePlus)
  5. In your DEPNotify starter script, call the policy using: jamf policy -event installSelfServicePlus

This is the way.  Be sure to test this in your dev environment.

Also, you may want to consider moving away from DEPNotify since it’s not being patched or developed anymore.  Something like Jamf Setup Manager, Self Service Onboarding, or Setup Your Mac. We built something in-house to get users to a desktop faster, but that’s just the requirements from my org.

+1 on ditching DEPNotify and replacing it with Jamf Setup Manager.

As for Self Service+ checking the install button in Jamf Pro settings as @florent_bailly suggested will do exactly what you want to do. :-) No packages / policies needed.
