Question

Desperate Help Needed in pushing out Docks

I know this is probably simple but I can't figure it out. I have a
com.apple.dock.plist file that I want all of my teachers to use when they
login. How do I do this? Managed preferences? Policies?

Thanks for the help!

Nelson,

You can do this many ways.. I send mine out via Casper Remote and fill user templates and fill existing users. However, you can do this via policy or managed preference. How many docks are you trying to compile? We have about 10.

Are you trying to push to user accounts managed by Active Directory or Open
Directory? If so, this was changed beginning with Casper 6.0 and is no
longer possible. According to JAMF Support, they are now using dscl to
locate home directories, however, with network accounts the home directories
don't exist except for those who are currently logged in. Something like
that.

You'll need to set a login policy that will push the Dock once per user. You
can set this to push "Once" unless your users may log in to multiple
machines. Then you'll have to create an "Ongoing" policy and it will run at
every login (overwriting any changes the user may make).

If this sounds like your issue then I urge you to request this to be changed
back to the behavior we had with version 5.0 and earlier. This has been a
big headache for our company.
