Hi all,

I set our Macs(Sierra) to do automatic Security Updates. In the past I think I can remember the updates were asking for admin credentials.

Are these admin credentials now not needed anymore and OSX is installing them straight away?

There are two possibilities:
-Updates for macOS (in the Mac App Store) do require user aproving (but non-admins can do that too)
-Updates for Apps in the App store may ask for the AppleID they are licenced to at update time. ( non-admins can do that)
OR
-There is a separate process for 'important' security updates, which will always install (if sofwareupdate checks are scheduled)
that is hardly used, as far as I know only once: see derflounder

Since 10.9 (I think) all things in the Mac App store (including system and security updates) do no require admin rights
