+6I did see the earlier thread about compiling Lion for imaging, but it didn't
address a very basic question I have: is it better to purchase the USB
installer for Lion for use with Composer, or can I extract the installation
files from the App Store download and use them on another machine with
Composer?

Agreed. Everything that I have read basically says that the DMG file is the
same and can be used on multiple computers.
You need to be conscious of Thunderbolt.

+31You should be able to do either. I don't think there is any actual difference between the DMG file on a USB drive versus the App store purchase.
