We are starting the research to define the end of the year device collection workflow.
I'd like to get this thread started to bounce off some ideas to hopefully help others.
This year students will keep their devices home and we will only collect grades 5, grades 8 and those not returning.
In our organization grades k-5 use iPad devices while grades 6-8 use Chromebook devices.
We are thinking of getting our collection scheduled on whatever the day is students come in to empty their lockers, etc.
Preliminary ideas of the setup:
Lines in the floor designating 6 feet marks to help keep individuals/groups apart.
Long table(s). The regular 8 footers, with a clear plexiglass between the staff and visitors. Plexiglass has a slot in it to drop off the device.
Devices are collected and put in boxes (10-20 per box).
Three separate piles are created:
1. power adapters
2. known good devices
2. known bad devices in need of repair
Workflow:
1. A visitor comes in and speaks to the data entry person. Student's name, and device asset information is collected.
2. The visitor moves to another section of the table where there is a slot in the plexiglass where they drop off the device.
3. A device collector worker grabs the items and distributes to appropriate boxes.
4. Once the box is full, it is taped and marked with the following information:
- Building name
- Content (power adapters, defective devices, good devices, ...)
- Date processed
4. Once the box is full, it is taped up and moved away.
5. The box is left untouched for x number of days per latest guidelines.
Uncertain what degree of PPE the device collector/handler may need.
