I am running a configuration on newly received macbook airs, leaving the OS intact from factory but using the configuration to install applications (office, acrobat pro etc..) which are set to install on boot drive after imaging, (also add local admin account). After the everything completes i take a look in the JSS inventory and see that the macbook air is not in the inventory, i login with the local admin and check the /var/log file.



NOTE: I have a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter for network access.



here is what i see in /var/log

-- there was an error.



CONNECTION FAILURE: "THE REQUEST TIMED OUT."



next line then starts with
---installing adobe acrobat pro,
---installing office 2011
---creating user admin
---reboot. Immediately
---rebooting computer immediately

I then have to use a quick add.pkg to enroll the macbook air.



Shouldn't the configuration enroll the computer?



Is the CONNECTION FAILURE: "THE REQUEST TIMED OUT." informing me that there is no network connection at that point in the process? thus not enrolling the computer

It does sound like the Mac can't reach the JSS during the process, although its strange that any of the process would work. How are you deploying the configuration? Are you booting from an external drive and using Casper Imaging?

yes, booting from external drive and using casper imaging.



the software is installing on boot drive after imaging, so i assume that involves no network access.

It will need to communicate with the JSS at various intervals during the process, particularly when Casper imaging first loads to get the configuration info and after the Mac reboots when the first run scripts get processed. There's an update inventory step at the end of the process as well.
