I'll keep that in mind, but I still prefer using methods I know I can get support for if needed. Not that community support isn't all bad, fine example we use here. Free software can be very good, too, if there is enough people and momentum behind it.

We will see what happens when I need to retire my XServes next summer.

Same for us. Our clients are all enterprise/health/gov and many are publicly owned, lots of regulations. So its hard to get buy in for non-supported solutions, despite how excellent it is.

The reposado project is very impressive...I hope Apple buys it (like they've bought other excellent tools from developers in the past and integrated into OSX client and server).

i don't see why apple would buy reposado. it's open source and basically mimics what their own tool does already. if anything, apple should incorporate branching (like reposado) and develop a better UI for their existing sus.

Oh thank the lord. At least we won't have to upgrade our 3 SUS servers to Lion (and deal with all the fun that could entail) until we're ready to go to Reposado.

+1, considering they've never been able to make SUS on 10.6.x work correctly without corrupting the catalogs if you turn off "automatically enable copied updates"... *sigh*
