How can I reduce the effort Jamf exerts when the VPN link is down?

I have a nearly new MacBook Pro running Mavericks OS with Casper installed. I am trying to track down issues with much shorter than expected battery life. I have noticed that when the software VPN Connect link is disabled which I do when I am not working on company projects I get one or two jamf processes consuming 100% of a CPU. Those tasks are reported as the highest users of energy on the system. Is there a configuration option to have the jamf processes drastically reduce their efforts when the link to the server is down?

Thanks Martin

What version of the jamf binary/JSS? I've seen this occur with older versions, but not with the most current ones. Since upgrading to 8.73, similar issues we were seeing died down significantly.
