So now that I have replication working from our main site to my first test site, I am running into another issue.
The only way I found that I was able to force a specific group of machines to have a new distribution point was using network segments. Not a problem for me. I've now got my test site with a fully replicated DP, and the machines at that site are now looking at the local distribution point. All of our installs are failing with the error message that the package couldn't be found. If I use casper remote from my machine in town, I can specify to use AFP/SMB when installing a package and sure enough it works fine out there. Is there a way for me to set all packages coming from this new DP to use AFP/SMB vs HTTP? I know this can be set on a per policy basis, but that will not work for our situation. Thanks!

I think I understood you, remove the HTTP settings from the Deploy Point and just have the SMB or AFP. (in settings -> servers)

+17The answer mentioned in this thread is for the 8.x version of the JSS only.
In 9.x, it's done by editing the Packages payload on the policy in question if we're looking for a specific "Force over AFP/SMB" option.
I see that you've also posted to a similar thread on this topic, and it looks like you've already voted/commented on the feature request as well; in the mean time, other than doing it per package per policy, we can also set up network segments to default to an AFP/SMB file share and just make sure that Use HTTP downloads is unchecked for that distribution point under Computer Management >> File Share Distribution Points >> HTTP/HTTPS.
If we only have one file share or none of the file shares use HTTP, we can just check each of them and make sure the "Use HTTP downloads" box is unchecked for all of them. If it's not on, it won't try to use HTTP for those distribution points.
If we DO use HTTP for those distribution points and don't want to disable it entirely, the only way to force AFP/SMB is by doing so for each package on the Packages payload of the policy.
