We have a dual platform environment where our "Windows" boxes pxe boot
for use with Altiris and our Macs Netboot for use with Casper. No issues
that I'm aware of. I just had some dialogue with the Network Guru here
and he said it hasn't really been an issue for him either. He just
had to put the IP address for each in the helper file on the routers so
we could boot across subnets.

Right now we have a couple thousand windows machines, and about five
thousand macs across thirty some odd buildings, each on it's own subnet.

Same deal here really. Using PXE to image windows machines with Microsoft SCCM OSD. Macs point to our NetBoot server for imaging with Casper. No issues. The routers are configured with the helper addresses across subnets. 3500 Windows and 500 Mac.

We do the same... One thing you'll want to be sure of is that it's the helper address for netbooting across subnets, and as far as the vernacular, there isn't pxe in a mac environment. To 'turn on' a mac, you need to sleep it for it to listen for a magic packet, it won't wake from the 'off' state. Details I know, but unless a mac person has experience with Windows, you may just get a blank stare when you say pxe for the mac.

Thanks you so much for you quick response. Now before I talk to my
network team I'd like to know how does a MAC boot with pxe knows to go
to MAC build server and not to windows server or vs. versa?

The difference is two different boot protocols, PXE for Windows and BSDP for NetBoot on Macs. I suggest googling them for more info. Wikipedia will have info for PXE and Bombich will have good info about BSDP and how that works.
