Question

Install pkgs from USB flash drives

I have a number of off-site users that need several large packages (Office 2011 and Acrobat X) installed; previous attempts to do this over our VPN have been really problematic. Instead I'd like to copy the packages to flash drives and mail out. I know this could easily be done with jamf install -package blah -path /blah etc, just wondering if anyone else has done anything similar and ran into problems / had any tips.

TIA.

Support for FTP when usin policies would be great for folks outside the LAN.

I'd use a policy to cache the packages first, and another policy to fire them off once they're cached. If you're using HTTP/S delivery for your packages, they will download a little at a time. If you're using AFP/SMB you don't get resumable downloads.
