Just curious about inventory gather/submit behavior. If a laptop user is offline or for whatever other reason the jamf binary is unable to submit its weekly inventory data to JSS, what is the behavior?

Does the jamf binary keep trying? Or does it give up and wait until the following week to try again?

Thanks,
Don

The Binary queries the jss for what it needs to contain within inventories.

So, the binary will try & contact the jss... But will not collect the inventory information until it contacts the jss.

Regards,

Ben.

I believe it keeps trying because I know that when students come back from Spring or Winter break, the JSS gets over whelmed with all machines checking in at once.

Does this mean the jamf binary is collecting new data and submitting? Or is it caching data and continuing to try?

Thanks,
Don

No clue, I just know it is a scheduled task to check in for inventory and when it cannot reach the JSS it keeps trying.

Inventory collection is just another policy. Yours happens to be set weekly. Weekly policies are run at most once a week. If the policy cannot run for whatever reason, it will keep trying until it can. Then it will continue running weekly from that point. Inventory collection happens in full each time the policy runs. (It starts over.)
