Hi,

Is it possible to block widgets with the Home Screen Layout but also allow apps to appear (at least on the second page) while not having those apps lumped into a folder?

Here is an example I have setup --

Main group (All Student iPads): Has normal student iPad apps. These apps and profiles appear on the first page as intended according to the home page layout

Second group (LMC): Has specific apps set to auto-install. Sometimes these apps appear after the first set of apps. But if wiped and returned to service, the apps will move to the second page of the home page and get lumped into a folder called “Managed”.

Is there a way we can have this setup so the apps on the second page DON’T get grouped together while also hiding widgets/blocking students from removing apps? It would theoretically be nice to just have all the apps together but having the layout locked on page 1, and other apps on page 2 (if more then two groups) be together, that is fine too.

Thanks

Hello,

I’ve done this in Jamf Pro, but we only wipe the iPads at the end of the school year. Are you utilizing the Return to Service app on these iPads or wiping them often?

Hi Kimberly,

The plan is to use Return to Service. We usually wipe iPads on a case by case basis if during the year (deploying to new student/new staff/testing). Otherwise, once summer school is over and inventory is complete, I’d wipe all student iPads.

Hi Kimberly,

Replying again since I don’t think my reply from earlier appeared.

We do wipe majority of our classrooms each year. We usually wait to inventory and after summer school to do this once classrooms are open after cleaning. This time, I will do RTS by remotely wiping. I took over from the previous tech lead, so I’ll be doing it for the first time.

The only time we would wipe an iPad is if we release it, new student, for a teacher, or just case-by-case scenarios.

Thanks!

My apologies for not responding sooner. In Jamf Pro(I’m assuming  the same is true for Jamf School), you cannot control the widgets. What I did, was set the widgets first as requested by the teacher, then applied the Home Screen layout specifying what apps/folders I wanted on the first screen and which ones were on the second screen. Unfortunately when the iPad gets wiped you need to remove the Home Screen layout profile, set the widgets and then reapply the profile. I’m using this setup for a kindergarten classroom. We aren’t using RTS on this set of iPads since they don’t need to be wiped on a daily basis.

We do use RTS on iPads that are used by different staff members each day such as substitute teachers where the widgets aren’t an issue.
