So far I've had this happen to 2 machines (one running 10.5.8, another running 10.6.4):
The admin group is gone. The Casper managed account does not have admin rights and neither does the user account. On the 10.5 machine the root account had been disabled therefore forcing me to rebuild the machine. Luckily enough the 10.6 machine still had root user and I was able to resolve the issue.
In Terminal I checked to see if Admin group existed: dscacheutil -q group -a name admin I got an error saying the group did not exist. I then ran dseditgroup -o create -i 80 admin
Repaired disk permissions, re-enabled admin for the users, rebooted, and all was well.
Anyone have a clue why this happened? Both users claimed they did not run any installations or updates. We run McAfee for virus/maleware; not sure if this is relevant.
