Hi list members,

This fall I switched over from doing the majority of my preference settings and tweaking from using the User Template to JAMF Casper's managed preferences feature. From the management side of things, this works well, as I spend a lot less time making configurations with specific preference file packages depending on what is needed for a specific user or lab. However, both myself, and end users, have noticed that the login time has lengthened significantly since I started using managed preferences. It only used to take 5-10 seconds for a computer to fully login and allow user to start working, where as this has moved to 30-40 seconds, sometimes longer.

Just in case this helps, I'm running Casper 8.31 on an 8 Core X-Serve, 10.6.8, 12GB RAM, 3TB RAID 5 Storage, Gigabit. The server manages about 175 clients. Most client computers are connecting via gigabit as well. We don't allow connections to the server over wi-fi (right now).

The delay isn't a deal breaker, however, it does make the computers seem slower than they actually are (some of the clients are brand new 27" Quad Core iMacs with 12GB of RAM and Gigabit ethernet). Has anyone else experienced this increased delay, and come up with any solutions to solve it? It's something I'd like to reduce or eliminate if possible with some tweaking or adjustment to the clients or the server.

Thanks!

I only experience this when working off the network with all local and ldap
accounts on our Macs.
