I was puzzled as to why spotlight no longer worked on newly imaged machines.

After a little digging I found that they all had a .metadata_never_index file at the base of the root directory.

This file is put on the disk after imaging during the "Set Name to xxxxx" task.

Has anyone got any ideas why this might be happening? Currently working around this by scripting the removal of this file at first boot.

Cheers

Matt

It is a bug with 8.6 that JAMF is aware of here is a link to another discussion about the same problem. Hope this helps.
