Abdiaziz - I have experienced these same prompts when I open office docs from our SharePoint site. If I click on "Always Allow", then it will overwrite my keychain item for my sharepoint site. Then the next time I go to sharepoint, I have to enter my password.

What is your experience with these prompts?

@jleomcdo

I always have to enter my password to visit our Sharepoint site. Also, I am not able to open Excel docs with Sharepoint (version 2010), hopefully 2013 should fix that which we are upgrading to soon,

@Abdiaziz We just tested the roll out. Get the same keychain prompt but only in Excel and PowerPoint.

@Mansour

I've noticed it so far in Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote.

Word and Outlook do not have this behavior.

I assume there is no way to suppress the keychain popup. Since this is O365 edition this is how they keep licensing in order. For the Windows version you have to sign in too.

btw. did anyone uninstall Office 2011 prior or post Office 2016 install? I hopped that the Office package would do an upgrade but it left some 2011 files behind, unlike when I was doing Outlook 2016 push. So, now I need to remove older office version to keep this clean but even after indexing it I still don't see the uninstall option.

You may be better off using a script to do a clean uninstall/removal of Office 2011 if that's what you want to do. @talkingmoose has a script he posted that I've used which can do this. You can find it here I would use the shell version, not the Applescript one.

@Abdiaziz I am also seeing the keychain prompts. Each app needs to reference your O365 credentials to start for the first time. Your O365 username and password are saved in your login keychain (6 new keychain entries total) when you initially activate Office 2016.

@mdonovan ...where is the LIKE button? :)

I can't wait to install software from my favourite convicted monopolist!

Anyone know if there is going to be an upgrade path from Office 2011? My boss is not thrilled about "renting" desktop software.

Standalone and volume license copy is supposed to be released in September.

Volume License copy is supposed to be released "in early August," per the Microsoft Office blog. (https://blogs.office.com/2015/07/22/your-top-10-questions-about-office-2016-for-mac-answered/)

I just checked our volume license site and while Windows 10 is there, Office 2016 is not. …I hate Microsoft.

Meanwhile, the new apps won't auth to our ADFS. Hooray.

I am experiencing the same problem in my environment. The ADFS admins for my company believe it's a problem on Microsoft's end, so as a result I have a support ticket open with Microsoft regarding the issue. If it turns out to be a problem with ADFS rather than an issue on Microsoft's end, I will provide the resolution (or a link to Microsoft's announcement) to the JAMF Nation.

Keep in mind, folks, unless you hear directly from Microsoft, information you receive from third parties is only as good as rumor or speculation until it's verified by the source of the information or some other trustworthy source.

Microsoft will post announcements about Office on its site—usually here: http://blogs.office.com/.

From their blog on July 22:

For businesses, Volume Licensing customers will be able to download Office 2016 for Mac from their Volume Licensing Service Center in early August.

That's all we know right now. Just like Apple, Microsoft will use vague release times such as "early August", "third quarter" or "Fall" in case its internal ship date needs to slip a little.

One thing I'll point out about Office for Mac 2011: Microsoft recently pushed its lifecycle support end date from January 2016 to October 2017. You don't need to be in a hurry to deploy Office 2016 if you're concerned about support for Office 2011.

I would wager that for many like me, support for Office 2011 isn't the concern. The major issue is trying to get Office 2016 down and ready for deployment prior to the school year, a window that is rapidly dwindling.

(logging into VLSC and madly hitting refresh...)

I hope Microsoft is ready for El Capitan and System Integrity Protection.

@donmontalvo

Office 2016 is completely sandboxed, so I think they're fine.

Take a look at this video about "Administering Office 2016 for Mac"

I bugged my reseller about Office 2016 not being in the VLSC yet, and our rep said it was because of issues with VLSC and to call VLSC to log the issue.

If you are not seeing the download and key, please contact VLSC support at 866-230-0560 for assistance troubleshooting.

@emilykausalik

Going by this:

For businesses, Volume Licensing customers will be able to download Office 2016 for Mac from their Volume Licensing Service Center in early August.

I'll give them two weeks.

HAH I just called them and they said that it was only available in Office 365, not through VLSC, and that they had no information regarding with the volume license copy would be available.

Great.

Seems like a nice stalling tactic they've got there.
