Hey everyone!

I am not too sure if this can be done but I am looking for a way I could block the Chrome Web Store within the browser then package Chrome for Self Service. My students have been finding more and more ways to make my days very long and stressful!!

Or I am wondering if taking Chrome away would be the best bet for next year?

I am open to any suggestions

Thanks

@rohrt85, Chrome can be controlled somewhat via MCX, (http://krypted.com/tag/mcx/)

Maybe there's an MCX that does what you need? That way, you don't need to repackage.

I would specifically look into the HideWebStoreIcon key.

is the key part of the MCX also? I am not very familiar with where to look right away with things like this-would you be able to let me know where this might be at? I read the article from up above and it said to load the mainfest into WGM which I am not familiar with.

Thanks for any insight!

Since you are using Casper, you can upload that into the JSS. When you go to create a new MCX, select the upload option, then select the manifest file. It will show you all of the options available and you just select the one(s) you want. The one I listed earlier should do what you want, but I haven't done any testing with it.

You can hide the webstore but not block it as far as I know. They can still find ways to navigate to it.

If it's proxy or game type plugins you're worried about, I'd try relying more on your web filtering solution and less on the clients. You also might want to consider blocking unknown sites for students if you don't already, that way the new stuff that comes out is typically blocked until your web filter categorizes it. We've had pretty good luck with iBoss this year.

@msblake- Where exactly would I find the HideWebStoreIcon key? I think I have been searching forever but I am sure I am overlooking the correct path to get it.

Thanks
