At least its fixed the scroll bars to recognise the system settings now.

Also do wish it was a single install, why having to basically reinstall the whole suite on every update?

Not a show stopper, but anyone else notice how Office 2016 apps take seemingly forever to launch, compared to Office 2011 which is almost instant?

If you're not on Slack, you should sign up (free) and add the #microsoft-office channel.

A developer from Microsoft has joined and is interacting with us. He's listening. He gets it. He's making changes.

In the Volume License 15.16 update, for example, he's disabled the "What's New" windows so we have a little less to manage. He's working on some of the bigger issues with the installer and we should see improvements in upcoming releases.

Does anyone know when the O365 installer is typically updated? I tried pulling down a copy this morning and it looks to still be 15.15.

@andrew.nicholas I logged in to O365 and downloaded a few hours ago also and it was the new version.

Strange, I just downloaded it from O365 and it was 15.15.0. I could tell during download because the file date was Oct 13, and sure enough, after installing it it was still 15.15.0.

@kstrick the updates are only the applications themselves and not the auto updater application. So the downloads won't solve that issue.

@dmw3 We had a conference call with one of the developers a month ago and it sounded like there were plans to make updaters available in the future. So hopefully we will see that soon.

@alexjdale I went back after a little while and re-downloaded the application 15.16 correctly.

Not looking forward to pushing out individual packages for each app that are stupidly big! Cheers Microsoft!!

It is pretty absurd that the full installer is about 1.5GB while the total for all the updaters is over 4GB. Re-deploying the full installer each time seems to be a better option - if we can get our hands on it.

I'm still trying to figure out what justifies the 6x increase in full suite size... I mean, it's pretty and all but come on. :)

I can only seem to find version 15.14 on the Volume License Software Center. Both individual or standard.

After reading this wonderful article ...

http://macops.ca/whats-wrong-with-the-office-2016-volume-license-installer/

...about what's wrong with the Microsoft Office 2016 Volume License Installer, I am deploying just the apps I want -- just the update files which are in fact complete installers for each app -- along with our license file, all of which are in separate packages. No auto-updater to worry about, no OneNote if you don't want it, works great.

I've gone from a post-install script for Office 2011 to putting these packages directly into my imaging configuration with Casper. I'm sure Microsoft will break this paradigm eventually, but for now it suits me perfectly.

Yeah, if you have an O365 "P3" account as they call them in enterprise parlance, you can go here to download the full installer: http://portal.office.com/Home (same as if you click on Office 365 in webmail)

The size difference between the Full installer and the a la cart downloads is striking. I can only guess there's a lot of redundancy in the Frameworks, Resources, and Shared support housed in every app bundle. The space savings must be in the gzip compression magic for Payload.

I'm seeing several comments where I can shine some light.

@andrew.nicholas, Office 365 customers and the stand-alone downloadable updates should be available around the same time. These are different channels and one may receive the new bits before the other. Usually, they'll be in sync within day or less.

Also, depending on your region of the world, you'll pull your updates from one of three sites: Dublin (primarily for Europe), Puerto Rico (primarily for North America) or Singapore (primarily for Asia/Pacific). We have static links for each product (see below). Bottom line: When someone else sees an update but you don't, that means the update hasn't synced with your region's server yet.

However, @Abdiaziz, the Volume License download portal has been falling behind in keeping up with the monthly update cadence the Office for Mac developers are using now. The next update there should be December/January. However, that will only get you a full installer. You can apply updates downloaded from any other official Microsoft source, which includes Office 365, Microsoft announcement pages or the static fwlinks:

Dublin:
Office 2016 for Mac suite: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532572
Word 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532573
Excel 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532574
PowerPoint 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532575
Outlook 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532576

Puerto Rico:

Word 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 525134
Excel 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 525135
PowerPoint 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 525136
Outlook 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 525137

Singapore:
Office 2016 for Mac suite: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532577
Word 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532579
Excel 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532582
PowerPoint 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532583
Outlook 2016 for Mac: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID= 532584

The Office for Mac team is working to get the VLSC site to be a little more agile and start updating the full VL installer monthly, but that may take a couple of months before it's finally doing do.

@AVmcclint, @Brad_G, @betty02 and @djwojo, combo updates are coming very soon (next release, I believe), however, they will continue to be larger (hundreds of MB) compared to the Office 2011 combo updates (~100 MB). That's because each application is sandboxed and contains its own resources. Microsoft has designed Office 2016 to work within Apple's security guidelines—the change isn't random and without purpose. For more information about that, see my PSU Mac Admins presentation: Administering Office 2016 for Mac.

Again, I encourage folks to join the Slack MacAdmins team (see my earlier post in this thread) and jump into the #microsoft-office channel where we have someone from Microsoft actively working with us to address our concerns around deployment issues (downloads, installers, licensing, etc.). Before posting your comments, click the "I" button at the top to show the Channel Info pane on the right. Read the pinned items as well as the past two weeks of discussion and you'll find gold.

@mvught, I really don't recommend altering installed applications, especially Office applications. These are signed apps. You run the risk of breaking signing and their licensing if you alter them.
