hi, can anyone tel me the root cause of why the netboot is not getting detected in across vlans. even though we have done all the settings in DHCP scope. But it works when the netboot server and client are in same VLAN.

what is the solution to make the netboot available for across VLANs.

What are you using? Cisco, Windows or something else? We use IP Helpers to netboot across VLAN's.

+1 for IP Helpers (Cisco), bootprelay (Extreme) or whatever other flavour you have.

Careful though not to conflict your DHCP server. Unless you are using the server as a DHCP server (which based on this info I'm assuming you aren't), make sure DHCP is turned off. Netboot uses an extension of DHCP called BSDP. If you have DHCP turned on, on your Netboot server, then when you forwarded the packets clients will start using your Netboot server as a DHCP server. As long as DHCP is therefore turned off on your Netboot server, your network team does not need to be concerned that they are forwarding. Turning on Netboot, only has the effect of activating BSDP.
