*OT* Has MacUpdate fallen to the adware plague?

I stopped trusting MacUpdate years ago, when they defended the presence of MacKeeper as a listing on their site, while sporting ads for MacKeeper.

I believe so - it seems that anything that previously downloaded a .DMG now substitutes MacUpdate's own 1.4Mb installer. .ZIP downloads seem unaffected, for now.

Too bad, really, as MacUpdate was always a good check of new releases as well as a means to learn about new titles. Time to start writing many, many more AutoPkgr recipes..

Yeah, got nailed by that too. If you click on the wrong link. I just now use their page to go to the vendor pages.
FWIW, Malwarebytes (free) does a great job of nuking that crap that gets installed...

Interesting, hit MU today (its still part of my daily morning bookmarks) - the Wacom driver downloaded normally, as did the latest Google Music Manager, but Onyx was that 1.8Mb MacUpdate app installer.

Sad to say it, but they won't be a daily site visit for me anymore.
