Hi there,

I have a strange issue with our office printer. The *.ppd file is not pushed to the devices when the printer is installed.
I have followed this guide https://hcsonline.com/images/PDFs/Jamf_Printers.pdf but also used the Jamf Printer Tool to check if I am doing something wrong.

Here is the point where I am stuck:

  • the path to the PPD is correctly created on the Macs but empty
  • first I thought it is related to a wrong path (if you install locally the pkg, the path is  /private/etc/ppd/RICOH_IM_C3000_PS.ppd and when uploading the *.ppd in Computer Management > Printers , the path is /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/RICOH_IM_C3000_PS.ppd. This is also the path in the linked documentation above. Therefore I assume, it should also be used
  • Worth to mention, the printer driver comes as DMG https://support.ricoh.com/bb/pub_e/dr_ut_e/0001343/0001343934/V11300/Ricoh_IM_C3000_C3500_C4500_LIO_1.13.0.0.dmg
and I just mounted the DMG and took the *.pkg from it. I do not have to touch the PKG before uploading to Jamf - right?

Well long story short, I am stuck and do not know, whey the *.ppd is not pushed.

If someone has an idea what I am missing - please feel free to share!
    Thank you in advance!

Hi @hmn ,

To add a printer with a .ppd file, you can use Jamf Print Manager.
https://learn.jamf.com/en-US/bundle/training-video-shorts-jamf-pro/page/How_to_Add_a_Printer_to_Jamf_Pro_Using_Jamf_Printer_Manager.html
Download it here :
https://github.com/jamf/jamf-printer-manager/tree/main
, then install the Jamf Print Manager app.

Install the printer on your Mac using the printer pkg and settings.
Then open Jamf Print Manager,
select the printer you have installed (it will appear in Jamf Print Manager).
After you add it, check in Jamf > Settings > Printer.

After that, create Policies to add the pkg and the printer.

@agungsujiwo thank you for your response. This is what I did - in both cases after the client Mac installs, the ppd path and folder is created but the ppd file is missing...

Hi @hmn. We recently added the same Ricoh and had success building the printer in Jamf Pro at Settings > Computer Management > Printers.

I installed the drivers locally on my device and entered the path to the PPD file: /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/RICOH IM C3500.ppd

Next, I created a policy, added the printer and the driver package and popped it into Self Service. We’ve had many users install it and can confirm it works everytime.

Hi @joboo72 thank you for confirming that it should work.
I figured out that on my device but also in the pkg the ppd files are actually without file extension - so if I explore the path /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ the filename is RICOH IM C3000 instead of RICOH IM C3000.ppd . The file without file extension cannot be uploaded to Jamf. So I have to modify the file.
