I think this is the correct settings, but give it a test.

In Sys Prefs> Sharing, click on Remote Management
Click Computer Settings...
Check 'Show Remote Management status in menu bar' on
Check 'Anyone may request permission to control screen' on

If you have a local administrator account, highlight the name in the 'Allow
access for' list and click options.
Uncheck the buttons for 'Observe', 'Control' and 'Show when being observed'.

On the ARD side, you should now be prompted with a dialogue box when select
a Mac and try to observe or control, asking if you want to ask for
permission.

On the target Mac, they will receive a dialogue box with the option to Share
Screen or cancel.

Hi-

This is what I've done, however I'm not using ARD. I'm just using the Casper Remote Control stuff. Is there any way to add the Casper account (I call mine netadmin) to the users allowed to remote? It's just basically VNC, right?

Hi-

I see that you can ask users if they want to allow remote control of their system, but is there any way to indicate to them that full control has been returned to them? I imagine this may be a limitation of VNC and I may need to look at ARD for the best solution for remote control.

Hi Jared,
"Best solution" depends on what your requirements are. ARD gives you the
status bar icon, but Casper VNC gives you logging, and the security of not
having the service running all the time, only when called for.

Notification on remote control exit would be a fine feature request. In the
meantime, you could probably use an Applesscript, shell script or launch
daemon to detect when VNC closes and display a dialog.

Hi Jared,

No there is no indication to the end-user that you've left the building, but you could use Casper Remote to flash a message on their screen immediately following as a work around. I'm not really sure if you are assuming this is when you aren't speaking to the other person on the phone and just tell them you're off? Or if you wanted something like ARD that I believe has indicators in the menu bar, etc. In the meantime...

On the Reboot tab change the reboot options to Do not reboot, edit the reboot options message, and check the box display message if not rebooting.

Fortunately, I haven't run into the part where you want to remote work on people's systems and they kind of freak out because there is no indication at all that someone is connected...even if the technician is set for prompting the end-user.
