Hello all,

Is there a way for me to see my students machines (Macbook Airs) off network, "live"? We can see them in network via Remote Desktop or Lanschool but not off network.

They do not have a VPN on them.

Thanks in advance.

Look at Beyondtrust (bomgar). You’ll need to setup the appliance in a DMZ or something similar.

What is the use case to see them "live" when not at school.

We use Meraki to access computers off network. Works well most times but requires the Meraki agent be installed.

Is your campus police department asking/ looking for options to track stolen devices?

We have a proxy server running JSS in the DMZ to facilitate off network communications. So machines can provided inventory, checkin, and do remote wipe.

It sounds like a good way to get arrested. Don't do it without admin approval.

This request came from the Admin. I was just seeing how it could be done.

Thank you though for the info. :)

They are asking for ways to track stolen laptops. We used to have Undercover but they're going out of business. We've received quotes from Prey and Hidden. They don't like the price and were wondering if there were other methods to see what a kid is doing if there are concerns that they're not using the machines appropriately.
