Looking in our Self Service, it appears that HTML tags are just being displayed, so this is still 'broke' from pre-8.4 functionality. I haven't read if this was a security concern, or just a bug in why it isn't processing HTML calls anymore.
From what I recall, html was taken out of Self Service on purpose to prevent cross site scripting (XSS) attacks. I'm not sure this will be coming back unless they find a way to bring it back and not have it be a security concern.
