I have yet to play with the current version of Self Service, but the HTML piece is not working in 8.4. Does anyone know for sure if that has been resolved?

Looking in our Self Service, it appears that HTML tags are just being displayed, so this is still 'broke' from pre-8.4 functionality. I haven't read if this was a security concern, or just a bug in why it isn't processing HTML calls anymore.
From what I recall, html was taken out of Self Service on purpose to prevent cross site scripting (XSS) attacks. I'm not sure this will be coming back unless they find a way to bring it back and not have it be a security concern.
