Self service and directing logging output to something user readable

Is it possible to have the self service output to a user displayable screen? Use case: Adobe RUM. It runs through and does the progress bar, but no indication of what it's doing unless you go into Console and hunt down the log file. What would be nice is to have something like the createOSXInstaller tool's login window tool that pops up and gives the user a display of what it's doing. (Image from @rtrouton 's derflounder page)
